Pli.é Project

Pli.é is a celebration of movement, artistry, and diversity, captured in a breathtaking series of photographs featuring ballerinas around the world—dressed in hand-folded paper tutus. Set against the iconic backdrops of Paris, Rome, New York, and Montreal, the project brings attention to the underrepresentation of diversity in the ballet world while celebrating the grace, strength, and beauty of women on pointe, in every skin tone.

The name Pli.é bridges the worlds of dance and paper art, blending their lexicons and techniques. In ballet, plié refers to the foundational movement of bending and straightening the knees, embodying poise and fluidity. In French, plié also means "folded," representing the art of paper folding that transforms flat material into sculptural forms.

This unique series explores the interplay between the human body and paper, as both fold and unfold with elegance, resilience, and flexibility. Pli.é is a tribute to the harmony between motion and creation, showcasing how art and dance transcend boundaries to tell a powerful, inclusive story.
